Sermons by Gary Bye (Page 2)
What can we learn from the life of Deborah from the Old Testament?
Week 3 of our summer teaching series looking at different people in the Bible.
This week we will look at the life of Noah and lessons that we can learn from Noah’s life.
On week 4 of our “I Love My Church” series, we’re looking at the big picture of what one of the main purposes is for the church. Why did Jesus choose this method to spread His message? What’s the point?
As we continue through our series about what the church is, week 3 will be looking at the purpose of the church. What was the intent? Why does the church exist?
As we explore what “church” means, Gary will look at the community aspect of how the church should be a family for those who are a part of it.
Gary takes us through chapters 5-7 as the plot thickens in Esther’s story. One of the main themes in Esther is how we see “coincidences” or things that “just so happen” to occur at exactly the right time. Since the author intentionally doesn’t mention God, we are left to peer behind the events as they happen on the surface, and see God’s hand working, even when it doesn’t seem like it.
As we continue through the Book of Esther we see themes that can be reflected in the world around us. Gary looks at chapter 3 and the history of the issues of the Jewish people, and how that can be mirrored in the disdain often reserved for God’s people throughout history.
The Book of Esther is unique in the Bible in that God isn’t actually mentioned once! There are no prayers, God doesn’t speak, and we get to see the dramatic story unfold. Throughout the story, we see messiness, scandal, sex, and drama, and yet… we see the Lord at work whether it looks obvious at the time or not.
