I am not caught off guard by the popularity of 50 Shades of Grey, a book and movie that has been dubbed, ‘mommy porn.’ It’s ironic that it is getting so many bad reviews and yet it is setting records at the box office. I’m also not caught off by its distortion of relationships and the objectifying of both men and women (according to the reviews I’ve read).
However, I am caught off guard by the number of Christians who have bought into the notion that this is harmless entertainment. I’m no prude, but it seems to me to be a discipleship issue.
After Easter, I’ve decided to do a sermon series from the Song of Solomon on God’s gift of intimacy. Perhaps things will become more black and white after that (pun intended).
Blessings, Pastor Kevin
